The well-publicised trade spat between Australia and China is still disrupting the Australian wine industry. Two years ago we were approached to sell an initial parcel of this wine 'under the radar' in New Zealand to move some of the capacity that China would normally account for. The brand has had very little exposure in the New Zealand market. Apart from the parcel we secured last year we understand that only a handful of cases have ever been sold here, as the winery has concentrated on domestic sales and key international markets.

We have tasted this wine and, as the reviews below attest, it is spectacular; a highly perfumed, concentrated and opulent release that amplifies everything that the world loves about elite Barossa Shiraz. No expense has been spared in the vineyards or winery to create this wine. The fruit weight, tannin and acid components are beautifully expressed and the finish is incredibly long. Read the reviews below to reassure yourself what's on the table here.

In our minds, this 2021 release sits at the same level as the very finest examples of shiraz that the Barossa has to offer - including the most famous labels in Australian winemaking. It has enormous cellar potential and will continue to drink well over the coming 2-3 decades. (As a relatively young release for wine of this magnitude, we suggest that you decant it before service if you open a bottle in the next few years.)

Clearly, with an opportunity of this magnitude, stocks are strictly limited and we strongly suggest you secure your personal requirements before telling colleagues, family and friends.

* We don't do this often, but this wine is being sold to you as a 'Mystery deal' to protect the producer's investment in this important wine. When you order, the wine will be delivered to you under its normal label; all will be revealed when it lands at your door.

** Don't be concerned if you aren't familiar with the brand when it arrives. A quick Google will put your mind at rest - and of course you'll be able to ascertain the price that this wine sells for in the Australian market!

Given the contractual nature of this offer we still can't tell you too much about it online. Click HERE to send a quick email to us, and we can tell you so much more on a 'one to one' basis. (That email address will only be monitored during normal business hours.)

Tasting Notes

Sam Kim, Wine Orbit writes "Gorgeously composed with power and grace, the wine shows dark fruit richness, cake spice, toasty oak, smoked game, and dark chocolate aromas of the nose. The concentrated palate exhibits impressive weight and persistence, enhanced by velvety texture and finely infused tannins. It's bold and sumptuous with refinement and harmony, making it seductively appealing and fabulously drinkable. At its best: now to 2040."

Ray Jordan writes "Exquisite. This is what modern Barossa Shiraz is all about. It brings the power and concentrated opulence firmly into the frame, but then it gently caresses and controls it in a more refined presentation. These are words you might not have read about old-time Barossa Shiraz. Deep and concentrated power with rich layered dark fruit, perfectly balanced with fine-grained oak and silky fine tannins. It's awash with dark fruits cascading down through to a long finish."

Ken Gargett writes "Another special Barossa Shiraz, from old vines, low yields and a fabulous vintage. If you love big, bold Barossa reds, splash out! Again, under cork and also the hefty bottle. This is near black in colour. Excellent oak integration, still melding bt adding a gorgeous vanillin note to the wine. On the nose, we have chocolate, plums, graphite, black fruits, axle grease, cloves, charcuterie, blueberries and mulberries. Concentration throughout, the intensity never wavers. Sleek tannins and a supple texture, formidable stuff. Immaculate balance and impressive length, if you can leave this in the cellar for three to five years before opening one, you won't regret it. Then enjoy for the following ten to twenty years. Cracking stuff."

Ned Goodwin MW writes "More succulent, poised and drinkable than past efforts that I recall. Fresh, too. The oak is better quality, while the bumptious dark berry accents, clove, violet and anise notes feel compressed into a well hewn sheath of tension. There is nothing pushed, drying or excessive. A wine that will reward established devotees of Barossa while, perhaps, drawing a new audience. A delicious, bright, full-bodied expression. Well done."
