Back in the 1960s, Jim Barry bought a patch of land from his good friend Duncan McRae Wood, a local banker who believed in his dream of making world-class Clare Valley wines. Decades later, this flagship Shiraz stands as a tribute to that friendship and the pioneering spirit that built one of Australia’s most respected family wineries.

The 2021 release shows exactly why McRae Wood has become such a revered name. Sourced from low-yielding vineyards and matured in fine oak, it’s packed with concentrated dark fruit, blackberry and plum, layered with liquorice, spice, mocha and a hint of savoury earthiness. There’s plenty of trademark Clare Valley power here, but it’s polished and beautifully balanced - a wine that feels both generous and refined.
