Village Vineyards are the new hot players on the Havelock North wine scene. Dai & Jenny Evans started out as orchardists, producing world class fruit that filled Kiwi luncboxes and market shelves for years until the family decided to move into grapegrowing. After years in France honing his skills, son Rhys has taken the helm as winemaker and champions the 'soft hand' approach to winemaking, crafting exquisite low intervention wines.
Snakebite earned its name back in their first vintage in 2019. After several messy attempts at disgorging (removing the yeast sediment after fermentation), they decided enough was enough and they would leave it undisgorged. That call was made by two of us standing head to toe in red Syrah sediment, so the name felt appropriate! Since then, they've fine-tuned the style each year. Snakebite 2025 is produced from syrah using the ancestral method and is fresh, vibrant and seriously drinkable, with juicy red fruit and a gently savoury finish.
The label by Abbey Merson says it all - natural, unpredictable and intriguing. Best served chilled and shared generously!

This syrah pet-nat bursts with bright red berry fruit, wild raspberry and a subtle savoury twist. The mousse is energetic but fine, giving a gentle creaminess that balances its natural crunch. Fresh, vibrant and just a little untamed, it finishes dry with a refreshing snap that makes it seriously easy to go back for another sip.
