Village Vineyards are the new hot players on the Havelock wine scene. Dai & Jenny Evans started out as orchardists, producing world class fruit that filled Kiwi luncboxes and market shelves for years until the family decided to move into grapegrowing. After years in France honing his skills, son Rhys has taken the helm as winemaker and champions the 'soft hand' approach to winemaking, crafting exquisite low intervention wines.
Golden Queen is named for the peach harvests that were once the heartbeat of Village Orchard, and for Golden Queen Jenny, who knew there was no time to waste once the fruit was ripe. Stone fruit waits for no one, and she’d pick from dawn to dusk to bring it in before the weather could turn. Certified organic and grown by the team at Osawa Vineyard in Mangatahi, this 2025 Golden Queen Pinot Gris sees a touch of skin contact before pressing, adding subtle texture and a gentle grip. Medium-bodied and beautifully balanced, it offers ripe pear and orchard fruit characters with a soft, rounded mouthfeel.

A soft peach hue in the glass hints at the light skin contact that gives this Pinot Gris its gentle texture. Medium-bodied with lovely palate weight, it shows ripe pear and stone fruit characters layered with a subtle, lightly grippy edge. Supple and rounded through the middle, it finishes clean with a touch of freshness that keeps it beautifully balanced. An easy, year-round white with both charm and structure.
