SUB $20 AUSSIE CABERNET WITH ALL THE ELEGANCE & FINESSE OF A WINE DOUBLE THE PRICE
93 POINTS | James Halliday
91 POINTS | Gary Walsh, The Wine Front "You're doing very well at the price here." REVIEWED AT $28!
We've got to agree with Gary here - this dark, brooding cabernet is punching well above our humble $18.99 asking price. Cabernet has long been a key player in the Yarra Valley, and this sub $20 winner demonstrates why. Whilst this impressive red displays all the power that you'd expect from Aussie cabernet, there's also an elegance that you would usually see in a wine of double the price. With classic cabernet flavours of cassis, tobacco leaf and blackberry, silkiness on the palate and a long finish, this wine is everything you could want at this price point, and so much more.
Go long - you won't be disappointed.
The winery writes "Broody, silky, juicy, statuesque and well defined. Rich cassis, earthy cedarwood and sweet tobacco leaf. This wine is everything you never knew you wanted. Biased? Maybe, but there's a reason why Cabernet was king of the Yarra for so long. If you don't drink it, we will #cabernyay."
Gary Walsh, The Wine Front writes "Dark berries, violet and mocha, some leafiness. Medium-bodied, good volume of fruit with tobacco savouries, slightly chunky tannin, but lovely flavour all up in a thoroughly regional style. Finish is solid. You’re doing very well at the price here."
James Halliday writes "Loads of leafy freshness with currants, fresh mulberries and blackberries all marking its varietal status while the regional imprint ensures an elegance thanks to its fine-grained tannins and lighter body."
