92 POINTS | James Halliday's Wine Companion
The PUMPA is named as a tribute to Len Pumpa and his fellow Eden Valley vignerons who pioneered one of Australia's most challenging viticultural regions. This is richly weighted, fulfilling wine of the highest calibre. Perfectly balanced and rounded in the mouth, this seamless wine flows over the palate with waves of savoury flavour. It's a triumph of modern Australian winemaking that could easily command two or three times this asking price.
Sons of Eden co-owners, winemaker Corey Ryan ( who “cut his teeth” as winemaker at Henschke for 10 years) and Simon Cowham (ex-viticulturist at Yalumba) can do no wrong. They were awarded the Trophy for Most Successful Exhibitor Medium Producer at the 2017 Barossa Wine Show - the 3rd time it has achieved this award in the last 6 years and a testament to the high level of consistency throughout their portfolio.
“The partnership of viticulturist Simon Cowham and winemaker Corey Ryan is turning out some stunning wines.” – Joe Czerwinski, Robert Parker Wine Advocate 2018
The winery writes "Deep crimson in colour, with alluring blackcurrant, violets and dried herb aromas. The palate is intensely flavoured with a juicy and rounded mouthfeel, finishing with supportive fine-grained tannins. Approachable now, this wine will continue to gain complexity as it matures."
