98 POINTS | James Suckling
95 POINTS 'Outstanding' | Cameron Douglas MS
Perhaps the most important wine in the Rippon catalogue, the old vine Pinot Noir is the wine that owner Nick Mills feels best represents the vineyards and 'Rippon's sense of place'. Always more about texture and length than upfront fruit characters, this is an excellent example of medium weight, but definitely serious Central Otago Pinot Noir. There is lovely palate tension with dark fruits fighting with quite obvious acidity and tannin. Lovely wine from an important, highly respected producer.
James Suckling writes "Firm and tight licorice, graphite, slate and light dried strawberry. Goes to iron. Flowers. Medium body. Creamy and fine tannins with a rather dusty finish. Fresh acidity and long and linear finish. Structured. From biodynamically grown grapes."
Cameron Douglas MS writes "Firm velvet tannins and natural acidity set in place the foundation to hold the fruit, spice and mineral flavours. A beautiful wine that will reward those who have the patience to wait. "
