An absolute gem from the Burn Cottage team. This Central Otago Pinot is the darling of restaurant wine lists, with plenty of spicy red fruit characters and savoury depth to complete the package. Made with fruit from three vineyard sites across Bannockburn and Lowburn, and produced with a focus on biodynamic practices, this is a stunning example of a Central Otago Pinot. James Suckling writes "Bright and lifted aromas of strawberries, wild raspberries, citrus peel and cherries on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy tannins giving notes of blackberries, mocha, lead pencil and wet bark. Refined and pure with 5% whole-cluster. Drink or hold."
Erin Larkin, The Wine Advocate writes "The 2023 Moonlight Race Pinot Noir is stalky, spicy and bright, with note of Campari/blood
orange that mingle alongside dark chocolate, coffee, blood plum and star anise. If anything, this feels slightly lean rather than plush, but it works well within the scope of the wine. In the mouth, the tannins and acidity work together as one, making this wine feel integrated, serious, and fun, all at once. Recommended. It is very fine."
The winery writes "Layers of aroma with dark cherry, florals, rich herbals, cocoa and earth notes. There is a lovely vibrancy to the wine, underpinned with density and mineral, savoury undertones. Supple and textural tannins partner the expressive fruit and extend through the palate. Enjoyable now, this wine will also reward cellaring to 7+ years."
