Forager Pinot Noir 2022 is a special release in every sense. It marks the 10th vintage of this remarkable North Canterbury Pinot Noir, crafted by acclaimed winemaker Dom Maxwell from the limestone slopes of Isolated Hill Vineyard in Waiau. As previous winemaker at Greystone, Dom knows this patch of New Zealand like the back of his hand.
Handpicked in early April, the fruit was fermented amongst the vines in true Forager style before spending 15 months in fine-grained French oak. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, the result is a Pinot Noir of obvious quality. It's vibrant, it's savoury, and it's beautifully expressive, with layers of dark cherry, wild herbs, mineral notes, and fine tannins.
Only 2,090 individually numbered bottles were produced, making this an incredibly limited release and a milestone wine for collectors and pinot noir lovers.

Sam Kim, Wine Orbit writes "Complex and enticing, the bouquet shows dark berry, roasted nut, clove and warm mushroom aromas, leading to a wonderfully weighted palate offering succulent fruit intensity with savoury nuances. Beautifully framed by finely pitched tannins, finishing superbly long and velvety. At its best: now to 2034."
Cameron Douglas MS writes "Youthful, bright, varietal and enticing bouquet of plums and cherry, some red apple skin and a mineralised clay and stone qualities. An inherent sense of place is a theme within the bouquet. Dry and equally fruity on the palate contrasted by a chalky unfiltered texture mouthfeel, medium+ acid line and youthful tannin structure. A gentle savoury quality emerges as the wine opens out. Well made, lengthy, needs some time to settle in more with best drinking from 2025 through 2030."
David Walker Bell, Wine Folio writes "A bright, lighter ruby colour in the glass. The perfume has cranberry, plum, red cherry, orange peel, white pepper, dried herbs and lilac florals to it. The palate starts dry, chalky and ethereal, with savoury elements of peat, tapenade and mushroom mixing into the brighter fruit flavours. Elegant, revealing itself slowly and unfurling in the glass. The balance of acidity and firm tannin give structure, allowing the plush fruit to push forward as you go. A persistent finish, with promise of more development to come given time."
