SMALL PARCEL WINES FROM ONE OF HAWKES BAY'S GREATEST WINEMAKING TALENTS.
95 POINTS 'Outstanding' | Cameron Douglas MS
Rod Easthope forged his reputation during his years as Head Winemaker at Craggy Range. These days his focus is on Easthope Winegrowers where he makes small parcel wines of the very highest calibre. The ethos behind Easthope's wines is to put the work in to the vineyard and let the quality of fruit speak for itself - and they have more than achieved that goal.
This hand picked chenin blanc was whole bunch pressed and then fermented in cast stone egg-shaped tanks, skillfully merging fruit and floral characters with savoury brioche-like notes. This is truly elegant wine that can be enjoyed chilled on a summer's evening or cellared for up to ten years. Sublime.
Cameron Douglas MS writes "A focussed, taut and varietal bouquet with an apple, lees and gentle white spice complexity, moments of quince and brown skinned pear. Youthful and enticing. Fantastic on the palate with a taut, precise touch, flavours of fresh apple and quince, baked apple and a fie lees quality, a whisper of spice and back bone of acidity. A delicious wine, well made and ready to drink from 2022 through 2030+."
The winery writes "2021 was a magical vintage of sunny settled weather. This allowed full ripeness yielding a wine with more stone fruit characters, lots of palate weight and length of flavour, yet still given tension via mineral notes and natural acid frame."
