94 POINTS | Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review
One of Bob Campbell MW's Top 100 Wineries of New Zealand 2023
Chateau Garage is the exciting small batch project of Ollie Powrie - former Head Viticulturist for Villa Maria and well known character on the Hawke's Bay wine scene. Few people have such impeccable grower contacts as Ollie so Chateau Garage was always going to be blessed with great fruit - and these first releases mark an auspicious debut from a 'micro-brand' that is well worth watching.
All quailty here. A fragrant, floral nose promises much and the palate delivers a textbook example of reserve standard syrah. Stylistically on the dark and broody side, this is full-bodied and quite concentrated by Hawke's Bay Syrah standards, but softer tannin structure makes it the most accessible option of the three 2021 Chateau Garage wines released to date. Enjoy over the coming 8 years. Recommended.

Bob Campbell MW writes "Deep, dense and inky red with bright blackberry, raspberry, black pepper, red rose and dark chocolate flavours. Intense, youthful and surprisingly accessible wine with the potential to develop well with bottle age."
The winery writes "Aromas of violets, imperial spices, black pepper and dark berry fruits. The palate is lively with wonderful layers of fruit and savoury notes entwined with the playful, fine grained tannins."
