93/100 | Stephen Wong MW, The Real Review
Gorgeous 2024 chardonnay from Ollie Powrie. The Lyon’s component, a field blend of Mendoza, Clone 15 and 95 Chardonnay, brings richness, texture, and that classic stonefruit depth. Osawa, planted entirely in Clone 95, adds energy and freshness, giving the wine a lovely palate lift and a sense of refinement that keeps everything in perfect balance.
Aged for 14 months in seasoned French oak and put fully through malolactic fermentation, this is 100% malo but far from overblown. It’s creamy and complex without losing its composure with subtle oak spice, ripe peach, citrus, and a clean, lingering finish.

Stephen Wong MW writes "A medium-bodied wine with restrained, taut acidity and a subtle flinty edge which give way to savoury, lees-derived breadth on the finish. The palate shows grapefruit, cashew and heritage apple flavours, lifted by a sweet note of oregano. Mid-weight generosity gradually tightens across the palate, drawing into a tangy, sherbet-like finish with a lick of salt. Give this a year or two to come together and enjoy over the mid-term."
A beautifully balanced Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay blending richness and restraint. The Lyon’s Vineyard brings creamy stonefruit depth while Osawa adds freshness and line. Fully through malo but never heavy-handed. It’s silky, subtle, and beautifully poised with hints of citrus, peach, and gentle oak spice. Lovely palate lift, fine texture, and a clean, elegant finish.
