Yalumba's Octavius is one of the finest straight shiraz releases to come out of Australia. Named after the 100-litre 'octave' barrels that are made on site by Yalumba's Coopers, which the wine is then aged in for 1 year after spending 21 months in French oak. Vinted from a blend of old vine fruit from the Barossa and Eden Valley, this is rich, concentrated wine with dark berry fruit notes on the palate. Another excellent release from this iconic Australian producer.

The winery writes "Deep red in colour with purple hues. Alluring aromas of dark red cherries, red licorice and red raspberries.
Aromatically, this is a distinctive wine with red, blue and violet fruits. Everything combines on the palate to give generous, cool, rich flavours, combining the freshness of Eden Valley with the depth of Barossa Valley. Perfectly balanced, elegant and quite simply a beautiful expression of Barossa Shiraz."
Andrew Caillard MW writes "Medium deep crimson. Magnificent pure blackberry blackberry dark chocolate aromas with vanilla roasted chestnut notes. Beautifully concentrated and inky deep with beautiful pure dark berry fruits fine slinky animated tannins and perfectly integrated new mocha, vanilla oak. Finishes classically firm with superb mineral length. Very seductive and impressive with a beautiful scent of place. Wonderful fruit definition, purity and precision with the density and torque for long term aging. Almost perfect symmetry. Drink 2028 - 2050."
