FIVE STARS 95/100 | Mike Bennie, Halliday Wine Companion - "Excellent drinking"
92/100 | David Walker Bell, Wine Folio
Grava is where Martinborough’s wild, gravelly heart meets the soul of Spain. Founded by Alistair Gardner and Karla Falloon, this small vineyard channels decades of Old World experience into wines that pulse with energy, texture, and place. From the stony terraces of the Ruamahanga River, each hand-harvested wine tells a story of sun-warmed stones, thriving ecosystems, and a deep connection between land and craft.
Grava’s Riesling 2023 walks the line between charm and intrigue. It opens all florals and citrus lift before shifting into something more unexpected: a gentle savoury hum beneath the fruit that gives it real depth. Lime, white peach and a touch of minerality glide through the palate, carried by bright, mouthwatering acidity.

Mike Bennie, Halliday Wine Companion writes "This has some mettle and thrust. Lemon-lime sorbet with a touch of green almond, some gingery notes, a savoury edge generally, which feels very appealing and delivers additional complexity. Excellent extension of flavour, great perfume. Fantastic drinking."
David Walker Bell, Wine Folio writes "A Riesling from organic fruit, grown on alluvial soils in Martinborough. A very pale straw-lemon yellow in the glass. The perfume has a lovely varietal purity, with lime, golden apple, lemongrass, bay leaf, grapefruit and elderflower in the mix. Dry, with a pithy acidity that leads the way, but the palate also has an immediate smooth textural quality that slows things down. A light prickle of tannin adds intensity and interest mid-palate. A soft but mouth-wateringly fresh finish has really good length."
