Red Hut is an exciting new project for long-time Advintage hero Corey Ryan - one of the most celebrated winemakers in Australasia.
This 2024 release from Hawke’s Bay’s Roys Hill is everything we want in a modern New Zealand Chardy: creamy, elegant, and just the right amount of oak swagger. Expect a hit of white peach and citrus blossom on the nose, backed up by toasty cashew and a little struck-match minerality that keeps things interesting. The palate is silky and full, with ripe stone fruit flavours and a gentle oak spice running through it. There’s plenty of texture and weight, but it finishes clean and fresh. Definitely one to get excited about!

Sam Kim, Wine Orbit writes "Gorgeously composed and expressed, the wine shows golden peach, lemon peel, nougat, and roasted hazelnut aromas on the nose. It's concentrated and beautifully rounded in the mouth, delivering a creamy texture backed by fine acidity, finishing impressively long and satisfying. At its best: now to 2030."
Kasia Sobiesiak writes "This is a very smart chardonnay with immediate appeal. There's a solid fruit base, elegant oak seasoning, texture, length. Nougat, cream, fresh zippy palate, some ginger, lemon sorbet, and melon crunch. It's ripe but has a swift, energetic flow, with a bit of warming spice and aniseed finish. Good drinkability, great value."
Huon Hooke, The Real Review writes "Medium-light yellow; richly nutty oak-influenced bouquet with a trace of smoky reduction and the palate is full and broad, rich and fairly obvious—rather than subtle. Buttery, creamy dairy influences from lees contact and malolactic. A flavoursome chardonnay that gives plenty of substance for the price."
The winemakers write "This 2024 Red Hut Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay from Roy’s Hill offers a finely balanced expression of site and season. Aromas of white peach, citrus blossom and roasted cashew lead into a textured palate layered with ripe stone fruit, subtle oak spice and a touch of flinty minerality. The natural fermentation and extended lees contact add depth and complexity, while bright acidity provides length and freshness on the finish. Elegant, structured and cellar-worthy."
