Glorious, robustly weighted, showstopper Central Otago Pinot Noir in the classic broody, dark fruited spectrum that we know so many of our clients prefer. The accolades speak for themselves and this is clearly a very special release for this proven producer. Already approachable with supple tannins and dialed down acidity, this important wine will continue to develop in the bottle over the coming 8-10 years. One taste and you'll know what we know - there is tremendous Central Otago value on offer here. Go long.
The winery writes: "Deep garnet hue with intense aromas of plum, blackberry, cassis, cedar, sage, mushroom and a hint of game. The cooler 2020 vintage has delivered an intriguing wine with great concentration and a remarkable core with layers of dark red fruit, wild herb and distinctive earthy flavours complementing a highly focused palate with great intensity and length. Silky fine tannins, vibrant fruit and intense aromas complement a serious structure with so much finesse. Harmonious and inviting, this Pinot Noir is drinking beautifully as a young wine and should continue to deliver enjoyment for 15+ years."
Cameron Douglas MS writes "Seductively complex, fragrant, very floral and varietal with aromas of dark raspberry and black cherry, baking spices and violets with a light smoky French oak allure. Equally complex on the palate with a youthfully firm texture. Plenty of tannin and acidity to contrast the core of fruit, naturally bold mineral seam and fine wild dried herb savoury moments. Oak is gently sweet and ever-present but judiciously placed adding complexity and foundation. An excellent example, well made and ready for drinking from late 2022 or early 2023 through 2030."
Sam Kim writes "A stunning expression, it’s gorgeously fragrant on the nose with dark cherry, sweet plum, dried herb, toasted nut and subtle mushroom notes. The palate delivers outstanding weight and depth, wonderfully complemented by silken texture and loads of fine tannins. Harmonious and flavoursome, making it hugely appealing."
