90 POINTS | Cameron Douglas MS
The 2018 vintage of this massive overachiever took out 3 Trophies including CHAMPION WINE OF SHOW at The NZ Wine of the Year Awards (formerly known as the Air NZ Awards and NZ's biggest and most important wine competition) and cemented itself as the hottest Kiwi red wine in our local market. The 2021 vintage is another cracker, and this textbook Gimblett Gravels Syrah is ripe and supple and set to further develop over the coming 5 years.
Cameron Douglas MS writes "A really enticing bouquet and palate with ripe dark red berry fruit scents, blackcurrant and dark raspberry flesh, some light weight peppery spices, toasty barrel and wood smoke moments and a generous fleshy texture. Tannins are youthfully taut and fine with medium+ acidity setting a decent foundation for ripe fruit flavours."
The winery writes "Dense purple and crimson hues lead to an intensely perfumed nose of violet, black fruit, herb and spice aromas. The palate is medium to full-bodied, supple and silky in texture, featuring wonderfully integrated tannins and plush oak. Pure and precise fruit flavours lead the wine to a lengthy finish."
