One of the reasons that straight cabernet franc releases are few and far between is that it's a tough varietal to really get right. But, when you combine Rod McDonald's legendary winemaking expertise with a cracker of a vintage in Hawke's Bay, getting it right becomes a whole lot easier.
And there's certainly a lot to love here. The dark, inky colour hints at the quality on offer and the silky palate seals the deal. Plum / red berry notes dominate proceedings with pepper spice and subtle herbal characters in support. Another excellent wine from one of our favourite Hawke's Bay producers.

The winery writes "Dark cedar and new leather with dry tobacco leaf on the nose. Ripe red fruits and a dark spice. Great texture with a lively acid, with loads of ripe plum and blackcurrant flavours. Fine tannins persist through out with a slightly dusty, leathery finish. Beautifully balanced and beautifully fresh."
