FIVE STARS 94/100 | Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Wine Reviews
93/100 'Excellent' | Cameron Douglas MS
An exciting Hawke's Bay version of this much-loved European varietal. The trophy winning 2021 vintage is a robust, savoury nuanced tempranillo with good fruit concentration sitting over a refined, dusty tannin palate. Seriously attractive wine that oozes ripe fleshy characters - with that robust finish adding real impact and presence. A significant staff favourite.
Cameron Douglas MS writes "Bright, fresh, intense and fruity with a varietal bouquet of dark cherry and wild red berries, fragrances of anise and colve from barrel toasting. Additional aromas of dark violets and wood smoke add intensity and complexity. Intense on the palate, fruity, dry, concentrated and delicious. Fine tannins and a back bone of acidity with a concnetrated lengthy finish. Youthful, taut, plenty of energy and intensity. Well made with a lengthy finish."
The winery writes "Attractive raspberry/blackberry aromas, along with liquorice, sweet spices, and dark chocolate. The richness, generosity, and structure one expects from the variety. A palate crammed with red/black fruit flavours. Tannins, with the consistency of cocoa powder, and vibrant acidity, contribute a mouthcoating texture and juiciness to the palate, which finishes long, succulent, and refreshing."
