FIVE STARS 96/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
94/100 'Excellent' | Cameron Douglas MS
Stunning, repeat stunning, barrel fermented Hawke's Bay Chardonnay produced from hand-picked Mendoza clone fruit from one of New Zealand's true chardonnay gurus. Beautifully presented, this robust release pays homage to the heartwood french oak that is the cornerstone of this barrel fermented wine. Powerful and structured, this is quality all the way and, in our view, a veritable bargain by premium chardonnay standards. Some tighter, flinty characters merge seamlessly with classic regional stonefuit and lemon cream flavours. Fantastic stuff.

The winery writes "Pale to medium straw in appearance. Fresh expressive aromas of white flowers, fresh cut nectarine, green apple, and citrus zest, along with cashew nut and brioche complexity. The palate is vibrant with great intensity, textual
complexity, vivacity and persistence. Flavours of nectarine, fennel bulb, citrus and cashew nut abound with a fine acid thread, and delicate chalky tannins on the finish."
Cameron Douglas MS writes "Aromas and yellow peach and apricot, vanilla and quietly spoken wood scents. Youthful and nicely complex without being loud or verbose. As the wine opens out in glass the scents of lees become stronger and melt into the overall bouquet. Dry with plenty of weight and satin-cream mouthfeel, flavours mirror the bouquet led by citrus then stone fruits, lees and vanilla wood spice and a gentle smoked wood quality. Well made, nice length and impact with best drinking from mid to late 2026 through 2032+."
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit writes "The complex and enticing bouquet shows ripe apricot, rockmelon, vanilla, roasted hazelnut, and brioche aromas, followed by a wonderfully weighted palate offering plush texture backed by beautifully pitched acidity, making it sumptuous yet graceful and engaging. At its best: 2026 to 2034."
