Stunning, repeat stunning, barrel fermented Hawke's Bay Chardonnay produced from Mendoza & clone 15 fruit from one of New Zealand's true chardonnay gurus. Beautifully presented, this robust release pays homage to the heartwood french oak that is the cornerstone of this barrel fermented wine. Powerful and structured, this is quality all the way and, in our view, a veritable bargain by premium chardonnay standards. Some tighter, flinty characters merge seamlessly with classic regional stonefuit and lemon cream flavours. Fantastic stuff.

The winery writes "The aroma is pure and intense with peach, sweet citrus notes, nutty complexity and lifted vanilla. Complex and enticing. These aromas flow onto the palate which is weighty, rich and pure with defined varietal expression, barrel ferment complexity, and a sustained citrus finish. The French oak and fruit are beautifully balanced."

The delectably flavoursome palate displays excellent fruit purity, combined with splendid complexity, leading to an impressively long, expansive finish. Richly textures with beautifully pitched acidity, making it hugely appealing."
Cameron Douglas MS writes "A delicious wine with core aromas of grapefruit and peach, ripe red apples and quince. The layers of lees and oak along with a quiver within the acid-line frame the core fruit flavours seamlessly. Fine fruit tannins with a tickle of some wood tannins as well add to the mouthfeel with the fruit core and saline remain the focus on the palate."
