CANCELLLED EXPORT MEGADEAL: SAVE $132 CASE BUYS
FIVE STARS 93/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit "...a concentrated palate that is intensely flavoured and generously textured"
Here is a massive opportunity for fans of bold, generously framed Cabernet Shiraz - the classic South Australian blend. This premium, Winemaker's Series release was destined for the Chinese market before the well-publicised trade spat between Australia and China kyboshed that sale. All we can say is that their loss is definitely your gain. This wine is meant to sell in the high $20 bracket, and it tastes like it.
We have long admired the robust wines of Thorn-Clarke and this perfectly bottle-aged, premium red shows a concentrated palate that is intensely flavoured and generously textured. That fulsome palate weight has become beautifully integrated over time and shows silky mouthfeel and supple tannins. The cabernet component is beautifully expressed, bringing both structure and obvious aging ability into play. In short, it's an absolute ripper.
This quality wine is drinking superbly now and comes to you with more gas in the tank. We expect it to remain in its current prime form for 4+ years.
As you would expect with bottle-aged wine of this calibre, stock is limited. Climb in.
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit writes "Wonderfully fruited and richly expressed, the immediately appealing bouquet shows black/blueberry, chocolate tart, game and spicy oak characters, leading to a concentrated palate that is intensely flavoured and generously textured. It is fleshy and silky, brilliantly structured by chalky tannins, finishing long and engaging."
The winery writes "The Winemaker Selection Cabernet Shiraz combines the finest parcels of Estate grown fruit to produce this traditional Barossa red. On the nose aromas of blackberries, cedar and spice are evident. The palate is medium to full bodied in weight and displays ripe plum and cassis characters, the wine has an elegant but soft structure with excellent length of flavour".
Rich & rewarding
Grabbed a bottle for a hump day treat - it's made my week.
