Melbourne-based Starward is a renowned and award-winning distillery from across the Tasman, offering an exceptional range of single-malt whiskies.
One of their core range, Starward Fortis (which translates to "Strong" in Latin) has undergone full maturation in 100% American oak barrels that previously contained red wine. These barrels were primarily sourced from the Barossa Valley Wine Region. The resulting single malt whisky boasts a full-bodied, flavor-packed profile, with vibrant notes of ripe fruit and wine, imparted by the barrel staves during the aging process.
Take in the scent of Madagascan vanilla pods, rich toasted American oak, blackberry jam, raisins, caramelised fig, and overripe plums. This is followed by a palate of upfront vanilla, quince paste, Muscadelle raisins, chocolate ganache, cinnamon, and baked banana bread. The finish is long and viscous, with a balance of ripe figs, raisins and baking spices from the oak.
