First Flight has become a real success for Squawking Magpie. The wines are overseen by hugely experienced winemaker Jenny Dobson (ex Te Awa and Sacred Hill) and our team think they are all really good value.
The Trophy winning 2022 Startled Pink is a blend of merlot, syrah and cabernet. It's just off-dry with good, crunchy fruit weight and some nice savoury notes hanging out with those semi-ripe strawberry and crunchy watermelon flavours. It’s a very good interpretation of modern New Zealand Rosé. RECOMMENDED.
