94/100 | Huon Hooke, The Real Review
If you’re hunting for that elusive “just right” pinot - the one that’s plush but not heavy, fresh but not flimsy, look no further. Ghostgum is Southern Lights’ premium release, and the 2023 vintage is a stunner: silky, fragrant and absolutely singing in the glass.
This wine shows all the hallmarks of cool-climate pinot noir done right. Bright cherry and red berry aromas lead into a palate laced with soft spice, gentle oak and a savoury thread that keeps things beautifully balanced. It’s supple, juicy and moreish. The kind of pinot you open for a midweek roast chicken and end up finishing before the main hits the table.

The winery writes "Deep and savoury aromas of aniseed, clove and sweet under-vine mulch, with lifted pomegranate and raspberry perfume. An intense and detailed palate driven by dark cherry and blood plum, and fine, silky tannins."
Huon Hooke writes "Medium depth of red with a tinge of purple lingering; complex, layered chinotto/Campari bouquet with humus, mulchy herbal notes and a decidedly bunchy aspect—all in harmony. Intense, powerful, full-flavoured pinot with balance and harmony that drives long through the farewell. A superb pinot noir."
