95/100 | Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review
95/100 | Huon Hooke, The Real Review
Exciting premium Hawkes Bay Syrah from Steve Smith MW - the man who drove the winemaking programme for Craggy Range for many years. Now producing wine under his own banner with American tech billionaire Brian Sheth, he is making some truly exciting variations on the classic New Zealand varietals and this is a wonderful example of modern Hawkes Bay Syrah.
This is a compelling wine that floods the palate with savoury, dark spiced fruits and fine tannins. A very accomplished syrah.

Bob Campbell MW writes "From 20+ year-old vines growing in the Gimblett Gravels subregion. Dense, classy syrah with Black Doris plum, cassis, dark chocolate, anise, cracked pepper and cedar flavours. Impressively proportioned wine finesse. Offers good cellaring potential."
Huon Hooke writes "Very deep, dark red/purple colour, with a profound bouquet of dark fruits, mixed spices and a nutty overtone from oak. There's pepper too, but less than in the Heretaunga syrah. The wine is full-bodied and well-structured with abundant ripe, supple tannins and moderately good length. A keeper."
