FIVE STARS 96/100 | Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review
94/100 'Excellent' | Cameron Douglas MS
93/100 | James Suckling
Smith and Sheth's CRU range represents the very top tier of their wines and every attention is given to the growing, harvesting and production of these wines. Cantera is a unique blend of cabernet sauvignon, tempranillo and cabernet franc from the iconic gimblett gravels sub-region. The three varietals meld together beautifully to give a savoury wine with power and structure that is nicely balanced by the juciness that tempranillo brings to the equation. Sensational wine.

Bob Campbell MW writes "A blend of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and tempranillo from the Gimblett Gravels subregion. A dense, concentrated red wine in a blockbuster style with cassis, cedar, blackberry, chocolate-mocha and nutty oak flavours."
Cameron Douglas MS writes "Made with a blend Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo and Cabernet Franc presenting a fantastic colour of opaque purple and dark ruby with aromas to match with blackberry compote and purple olive, plum ad a touch of prune, sweet toasty French oak scents with vanilla and raw sugar, clove dust and a touch of bacon. Concentrated, rich in texture, tannin and acidity with a core of oak and dark berry fruit flavours, toasty barrel spices and a delicious mouthfeel. Great drinking from purchase day and through 2027+."
The winery writes "Very dense, almost opaque black cherry colour. Hedonistic aromas of blackcurrant, cigar box, vanilla, cedar and violets provide an overwhelming but composed impact on the nose. The palate is similarly generous with abundant flavours of blueberry, dark plum and blackcurrant alongside a creamy vanilla and warm pastry like texture, delicious fine pencil lead and toast, finishing with the distinctive iodine and stony texture of fine Gimblett Gravels red wine."
