A HAWKE'S BAY CLASSIC
91/100 | Stephen Wong MW, The Real Review
A true Hawke's Bay icon, Sacred Hill are recognised as one of New Zealand's most presigious and awarded wineries. Fruit from the famous Rifleman's Vineyard is used for Wine Thief Chardonnay. With hand-picked fruit, French Oak treatment and careful blending of the best barrels, Wine Thief is a consistently satisfying wine from this legendary Hawke's Bay producer.
This latest release is richly textured and shows great weight and concentration. Stonefruit, citrus and toasty oak notes fill the nose. The palate is alive with peach, grapefruit, creamy lemon, cashew and oak spice. Whilst drinking beautifully now, it can easily cellar for a further 6 - 8 years. A fine expression of Hawke's Bay Chardonnay.

Stephen Wong MW writes "Flinty reduction adds complexity to this restrained chardonnay with zingy, grilled citrus and smooth hazelnut flavours which stain the weighty, full-bodied palate. A touch of fragility emerges on the mid-palate, suggesting a wine for the near- to mid-term but there is plenty of substance here to enjoy across that time. Modern, updated but mouth-filling and reasonably flavoursome."
