We've developed quite the following for our occasional Rod Easthope deals and we are thrilled that this absolute beauty has just dropped into our laps. Rod's a real star; a gifted producer who made his name with a glittering career as head winemaker for Craggy Range. Since 2012, Rod has been focused on his highly successful eponymous brand - with most of the wines he now makes ending up in the UK and European markets. Indeed, this excellent Syrah was heading for Britain but the buyer had 2 pallets that were surplus to his needs and, after a quick tasting, we pounced on them with a vengeance. You would have pounced too. 

2017 was a challenging vintage in Hawke's Bay but that's when the great winemakers prove their worth and that's exactly what Rod has done here. This wine is an absolute credit to him; a soft and fulsome expression that is loaded with spicy red fruits, supple rounded tannins and a finish that goes on and on. The drive and detail on the palate is tremendous for a wine in this price bracket and this is a generous and rewarding example of Hawkes Bay Syrah; a complete and satisfying glass of wine that will stand up to any scrutiny. It comes very highly recommended.
