Quarter Acre is Te Awanga's reserve level range and the wines are a personal showcase for Rod McDonald - one of Hawkes Bay's most widely recognised winemakers. Quarter Acre are plush, richly flavoured wines that offer the sort of generosity and drinkability other winemakers aspire to - but seldom achieve. They come highly recommended.
VInted from carefully selected parcels of Merlot (43%), Cabernet Sauvignon (39%), Malbec (14%) and Cabernet Franc (4%), Section 2018 is a red blend that well and truly has Rod's hallmark quality cues written all over it. Ripe, dark fruit flavours flood the palate but the real magic is in the plush mouthfeel and long, lingering finish. Outstanding wine and excellent buying for fans of Hawke's Bay red.
The winery writes "Deep in colour, this blend is a dense mouthful with red and dark fruits, florals and dried herbs. The palate is full and plush with all important drinkability and balance. The tannins are fine and ripe and the finish is long. This wine shows a bright, youthful elegance but will benefit from careful cellaring."
Bob Campbell writes "Last tasted over one year ago. A blend of 43% merlot, 39% cabernet sauvignon, 14% malbec and 4% cabernet franc. Fresh, lively, high-energy red with bright dark berry, wood-smoke, floral and spicy oak flavours. A medium-bodied red that is good drinking now."
