94 POINTS | Cameron Douglas MS
This is an excellent expression of barrel-fermented Waitaki Valley Chardonnay. Look for complex layers of stonefruits and ripe citrus fruits on an elegantly framed palate that opens in the mouth to reveal some creamy brulee characters, subtle wood spice and a nice line of soft acidity. This wine perfectly straddles the line between power and refinement - while a nice mineral note on the mid-palate adds another quality cue. Recommended.
Cameron Douglas MS writes "A wine with an immediate sense of place and time with aromas of fresh grapefruit flesh then peach and mineralised stone and clay. New, vibrant and fresh with a bouquet that can only be from Otago. Near full-bodied with a core of mineral, fruit and fine oak complexities. Well made, lengthy and delicious with best drinking from 2023 through 2029."
The winery writes "The grapes have been handpicked and whole bunch pressed before barrel fermentation. Generous and textural palate combining minerality and richness with long lasting aromas of white flowers and complex spices showing fresh ginger, white pepper and vanilla bean."
