FIVE STARS 94/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
An out and out winner with a deserved following amongst canny Kiwi wine buyers. Saddleback may be Peregrine's entry level label but most Central Otago producers would be proud to call it their flagship.
This Pinot Noir is full of bright, juicy flavours like red cherry and wild berries, with a lovely floral aroma and just a hint of spice. The fruit comes from sunny, dry vineyards in Pisa, Cromwell and Bendigo, which gives the wine its ripe, generous character. It is smooth and silky on the palate, with soft tannins, plenty of flavour, and a fresh lift that keeps it lively. A bit of time in older French oak adds a gentle touch of polish without taking away from the fruit.
Easy to drink and full of personality, this is a great example of Central Otago Pinot. Whether you are new to Pinot or already a fan, this one is sure to impress. Obvious value.

Sam Kim, Wine Orbit writes "This is splendidly fruited and instantly appealing on the nose, showing Black Doris plum, blueberry, floral and almond characters with a hint of spicy overtone. The palate delivers succulent fruit intensity combined with plump mouthfeel and silky texture, finishing long and velvety. At its best: now to 2030."
The winery writes "Appealing aromas of dark plum, blueberry, florals and a hint of spice combine with succulent fruit intensity on the palate and a long velvety finish. A pure expression of Central Otago Pinot Noir. Luscious and fruit focused with great flavour and concentration."
