Pegasus Bay feature in any conversation of New Zealand's finest producers, and the Donaldson family have been producing wine in Waipara since the 1970s. Located in North Canterbury, Waipara is one of New Zealand's smallest but fastest growing wine regions, and with warm days and cool nights, it's the perfect home for premium pinot. It's not hard to see why this superb pinot noir has gained such rave reviews. Complex, seductive and supremely elegant, this is a must-have investment for any fine wine enthusiast.

Tasting Notes

Cameron Douglas MS writes "Fantastic bouquet, enticing, complex, varietal and savoury. Aromas and flavours of dark cherry and berry fruits, barrel spices and youthful energy. Dark cherry and black berry flesh, some plum and blackcurrant notes then ansie and toasty clove barrel flavours. Firm youthful tannins need time to integrate more, acidity is lively and fresh carrying flavours, a savourt dried herb quality and textures of fruit, oak and pinosity. A delicious and complex wine that will age well if given the chance. Best drinking likely from 2025 through 2034+."

Sam Kim, Wine Orbit writes "Immensely complex and seductively inviting, the bouquet shows dark berry, smoked game, truffle and roasted nut characters, leading to a wonderfully weighted palate that's richly textured and impressively long on the finish. It's opulent and velvety, while remaining structured and harmonious with a sustained engaging finish. At its best: now to 2036."

The winery writes "Upon release it has a deep ruby hue.  The nose is a sultry amalgam of spiced plum, red currant and dark cherry, leading to a savoury underlay of earth, leather, cinnemon, mushroom and crushed thyme.   Fine grained tannins and a concentrated core of ripe fruit thrill the palate, presenting a luxurious mouthfeel.   Well integrated acidity adds perfect balance and poise, setting the platform for a long and harmonious close.  This is a wine with real power and drive, yet delivered with precision and finesse.  While ready to drink on release it can be expected to cellar well and evolve gracefully for many years."
