FIVE STARS 93/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
A new interpretation of a classic. Matawhero winemaking legend Dennis Irwin pioneered the first plantings of Gewürztraminer in New Zealand, and we're loving this latest vintage of a famous Gisborne wine.
Now produced by Richard and Kirsten Searle, this is lush and concentrated Gewurz with layers of spicy, exotic fruit flavours and classic Turkish Delight complexity. The sheer joy and exuberance of a good glass of Gewürztraminer cannot be denied and this new release comes highly recommended. Enjoy on its own in the sun or with lightly spicy foods.
Cheers, Dennis!
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit writes "An elegant rendition of the variety, showing mango, pineapple, lychee, rose petal and subtle spice aromas, it's succulent and plump in the mouth delivering bright fruit flavours with smooth texture and refreshing acidity, offering fabulous drinking."
The winery writes "Pale straw with hints of gold. Exotic rose petal, clove, lychee and star anise notes. Clean fruit-driven style, rich and full with lychee, Turkish delight, spice and ginger."
