"Succulent and creamy, delivering lovely weight and fine texture" - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
Huia are a boutique Marlborough producer with a focus on creating organic, biodynamic wines - a winery with serious pedigree and a reputation built on thoughtful, organic winemaking since its founding in 1994 by Claire and Mike Allan. More recently, Huia has entered a new chapter under owner Tom Pegler, with refreshed branding now rolling out. As part of that transition, we’ve secured a small parcel of the final bottles wearing the old label. Wine of this calibre was never intended to be offered at this unprecedented price.
This 2022 chardonnay is in pristine condition. Crafted with full malolactic fermentation and maturation in French oak, it delivers a beautifully creamy texture balanced by fine structure and subtle oak complexity - very reminiscent of fine white Burgundy. Layers of stone fruit and citrus flavours flood the palate and a touch of vanilla rounds things out. A deliciously ripe, complex glass of wine. This is a rare chance to secure a seriously good wine at a level it was never meant to hit.

David Walker Bell, Wine Folio writes "A Chardonnay from the Huia Home Block vineyard in Marlborough. A bright, light gold colour in the glass. The scent differs from a typical New Zealand Chardonnay perfume, with a very European style to it – marmite, hay, green fig, juniper and soy all evident before you get to the more traditional citrus, stone fruit, creme brulée and hazelnut notes. Dry, with a tingle of crystalline acidity in the vibrant palate. A creamy texture adds a softness, as the oak makes itself known, and a touch of tannin too. Good concentration and length makes for a pretty serious expression – look for this to age well."
Cameron Douglas MS writes "Super bright, varietal and fresh with a nicely complex bouquet of fresh white peach and honeysuckle, red apple and a seam of vanilla spice and stone. Pressed white flowers and nut with a fresh baked goods suggestion. Dry, taut, crisp and youthful with persistent flavours that mirror the bouquet, a decent acid line adds poise and carries the floral and core fruit flavours throughout the palate. Delicious, fresh and developing still. Best from day of purchase through 2030."
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit writes "Complex and inviting, the elegant bouquet reveals ripe peach, lemon peel, subtle vanilla, and roasted hazelnut characters. It's succulent and creamy in the mouth, delivering lovely weight and fine texture, well supported by juicy acidity, finishing long and harmonious. At its best: now to 2027."
The winery writes "Crafted from organically grown fruit from our home block and matured for eleven months in French oak, this Chardonnay is shaped by patience and precision. Naturally fermented with full malolactic, it offers layered notes of grilled grapefruit, honeydew melon and roasted chestnut, carried by freshness and gentle structure."
