FIVE STARS 93/100 | Candice Chow
Hopesgrove is the Paki Paki hillside vineyard venture of Pieter Koopman and the superb wines he produces are a testament to this special piece of dirt and Pieter's undoubted winemaking prowess. With citrus and stonefruit aromas, this elegant wine is a lovely example of quality Hawke's Bay Chardonnay. An impressive 93 points from renowned Master of Wine, Steve Bennett MW, says it all - you simply can't go wrong here.
Steve Bennett MW, NZ Wine Rater writes "Contemporary, restrained, appealing nose with aromas of lemon zest, white nectarine flesh, green figs, vanilla, feta and white pepper. Taut, reasonably concentrated, fluid palate with freshness, energy, good persistence and drinkability. Should have a long life ahead."
Candice Chow writes "An elegant chardonnay with a lean focus, carrying citrus, lemon sherbert and stonefruit along with floral and nutty details."
The winery writes "Bright and pure aromas of melon, stone fruit and citrus, interwoven with soft butter, toasty oak and cashew. Full bodied, with an elegant mouthfeel elevated by a soft buttery flow and a textural phenolic line. The fruit has concentration and intensity, compliment the toasty oak details with a long finish. Drink now until 2027."
