FIVE STARS 96/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
Nicely rounded and plush South Island Syrah from one of Marlborough's most famous vineyard sites. This is a juicy number with spicy dark red fruits dancing on the palate in a quite feminine style. It's immediately attractive; a soft and supple number with wide appeal. Recently awarded Platinum at the Decanter World Wine Awards, this special wine is making a splash on the world stage.
Michael Cooper writes "Who says you can’t grow great syrah in Marlborough? This very classy red is boldly coloured, with a fragrant, spicy bouquet. Still very youthful, it has concentrated plum, spice and black pepper flavours, seasoned with oak, a hint of liquorice, impressive complexity and a well-structured, lasting finish."
Sam Kim writes "This is stunningly beautiful and exquisitely refined, showing Black Doris plum, dark cherry, game, almond and violet aromas on the nose, leading to a superbly concentrated palate exhibiting outstanding fruit purity and poise. It's silky, flowing and seamless with layers of complex flavours backed by fine tannins, ensuring its graceful development."
Joelle Thomson writes "It's a keeper and a winner. This rare Marlborough Syrah is made with grapes from a great vintage, grown on a small organic hillside vineyard. This wine is all about complex layers of spice, red floral notes and beautiful ripe blackberry and black pepper aromas."
IWC Judges write "Fragrant, lifted aromas of spice, violets, plump ripe blackberries and black pepper. The palate is elegant and quite rich with fine tannins, polished damson fruit and black cherries with a suggestion of bacon on the finish."
