FIVE STARS | The Real Review
95 POINTS | Steve Bennett MW, NZ Wine Rater
94 POINTS | Cameron Douglas MS
The Escarpment Single Vineyard series allows individual vineyard expression from exceptional sites within Martinborough. These wines are produced in tiny quantities are we are delighted to be able to offer our customers the chance to buy them. They are undoubtedly some of the finest, and most individual Pinot Noirs ever produced in NZ.
The Pahi vineyard is found next to the Escarpment vineyard and the 19 year old vines are meticulously managed to produce exceptional fruit for this wine. It's a classic Martinborough style, with bright red fruits on the palate, a delicate line of acidity and silky tannins adding interest and complexity. Don't be afraid to tuck some away for up to 15 years, you'll be well rewarded.
Bob Campbell MW writes "Intense pinot noir with cassis, violet, red rose, plum, black cherry and spicy oak supported by tangy acidity and fine, peppery tannins. An aromatic wine that opened up as it sat in the glass. It deserves to be aerated."
Steve Bennett MW, NZ Wine Rater writes "Opulent, complex, fragrant nose with heady aromas of black cherry stone, raspberry ripple ice cream, Jamón Ibérico, seaweed, bacon fat and smoky, vanilla new oak. Lush and plush with layers of ripe fruit and rich, savoury saturated tannins. Pushing the boundaries with such high levels of extraction and lots of oak calls for several years in the cellar."
The winery writes "This is an outstanding example of classic Pinot noir. It has bright red fruits and violets with a fine acid line and soft silky tannin. It will continue to develop for up to 15 years and will always be a wonderful complement to any game meat."
