Established in 1976, Duckhorn Estate have spent the last 40 years creating a name for themselves as one of the premium producers in North America. While their portfolio has grown over the years, they have always had a reputation for producing iconic reds.
Vinted from 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot, this is rich and ripe with firm tannins keeping things in check. The wine spent 16 months in French oak which has introduced some softer, spicy characters. Approachable now but it's well worth cellaring this excellent red for 5 - 8 years.
The winery writes "Beautifully rich and complex, this wine offers enticing aromas of huckleberry jam, black cherry, and cinnamon spice, with hints of bay leaf, maple and violets. The lush dark berry and sweet baking spice notes are echoed on the palate, where the flavors are framed by a firm underlying structure and fine, dusty tannins that add depth and nuance to a long, robust finish."
James Suckling writes "Aromas of wet stone, gravel and blackcurrant. Full-bodied with fine, velvety tannins. Juicy, bright and fresh. Lovely dark fruit, with gravel and wet-stone notes adding very nice definition. Chocolate finish."
