FIVE STARS 95/100 | Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review
94 POINTS | Cameron Douglas MS
92 POINTS | James Suckling
The Dicey operation is the brainchild of brothers James and Matt Dicey who have both played integral roles in the Central Otago wine scene over the years. They certainly know their stuff and have put that to work to create the Dicey range of wines.
Their 2020 Bannockburn Pinot Noir is a blend of fruit off their Inlet and Black Rabbit Vineyards. It then spent 12 months in oak (21% new) before bottling unfined. The result is a dark, savoury pinot with herbal notes and delicate tannins. Drink now or tuck away for a few years.
Cameron Douglas MS writes "Lovely complexity and concentration with ripe red berry fruits and a core of stony mineral, some light dried herb and layers of oak spice and fine toasty qualities. On the palate - equally complex and fruity with layers of pinosity and panache, youthful intensity and chalky textured mouthfeel. An abundance of coarse silk tannins and back bone of acidity contrasted by fruit and textured mouthfeel. A delicious wine, youthful and fresh, needs time to integrate and develop with best drinking from late 2022 through 2029+."
