BOUTIQUE, SMALL-BATCH WINEMAKING AT ITS VERY FINEST
FIVE STARS & TOP RANK 98/100 | Bob Campbell MW
Inspired by the legendary producers of Bordeaux, Waiheke Island producers Destiny Bay strive to craft the finest wines possible. The team at Destiny Bay combine small-batch winemaking techniques and their years of expertise to harness the unique microclimate on the island and produce the most sophisticated expression of this distinctive terroir.
Reminiscent of a “Left Bank” Bordeaux-style wine, Magna Praemia (meaning 'great rewards' in Latin) is a sublime expression of the art of blending. Hailing from the exceptional 2014 vintage, this wine is complex and fragrant. Whilst drinking excellently now, this perfectly bottle-aged wine can easily cellar for a further eight years or more.
This is a rare opportunity to buy a Destiny Bay vintage and an essential investment for any connoisseur of fine New Zealand wines.

The winery writes "Deep, dark and maroon in colour, this Magna Praemia may serve as one our most robust wines ever produced. The nose is complex and fragrant with graphite, blueberry, plum and a touch of vanilla pod. Yet underneath the fruit, the wine shows peppercorn and a delicate floral quality which highlights the typicity that Cabernet Sauvignon grown at Destiny Bay expresses. Upon first taste, this Magna Praemia is rich and generous with lush berry flavours and mouth-feel that persists across the midpalate. The oak is seemlessly integrated on the long finish before the wine leaves just enough of a coating of tannins to suggest that it is truly age-worthy. Expect this concentrated wine to reward long term cellaring."
