Blackenbrook are a small, family-run winery in the Nelson region. They take a 'quality over quantity' approach to winemaking and, as well as being an accredited sustainable winegrowing producer, most of their wines are also unfined and vegan.
This a lovely example of Nelson Pinot Gris. It's lush and textural and a small component was aged in barrels which has added complexity and interest. The palate is dominated by peach characters with a hint of spice dancing around the edges. An element of sweetness is kept in check nicely by fresh, lingering acidity. Superb wine from this boutique producer.
Michael Cooper writes "Pale lemon/green, it is fleshy, with strong, vibrant pear, lychee and spice flavours, fresh acidity, slight sweetness and a distinctly spicy finish. Best drinking 2022+."
Neil Hodgson writes "The rich pear flavours are balanced with nice spicy phenolics and delightful acidity. The balance between intense fruit characters, juicy acid and the dry finish is a tightrope walked with precision. This wine is drinking very well right now and is a perfect food wine."
