FIVE STARS 93/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
Quality Central Otago Pinot Noir from the normally Marlborough focused winemaker Dave Clouston. This is excellent wine shows Clouston's trademark generous style and is loaded with regional dark fruits and some spicy, herbal notes. Recommended.
The winery writes "With dark purple hues, this savoury pinot noir releases lifted aromas of raspberry and dark cherry with hints of iodine and black olive. The palate is full of kirsch cherry and cassis flavours, umami, liquorice and a sprinkling of dried herbs. A focussed frame and crunchy tannins contribute to a glossy mouth feel and a slightly peppery finish."
Sam Kim writes "Beautifully ripe and fragrant, the wine shows Black Doris plum, sweet cherry, subtle spice and roasted hazelnut aromas on the nose, followed by a supple palate offering terrific fruit purity and intensity. Elegant and gorgeously rounded with a lengthy silky finish."
Candice Chow writes "Deep, even, ruby-black with a purple hue. The nose is softly full; concentrated dark fruit elements interweave herb, toast, mocha and spice. Medium-bodied, aromas of black raspberries, cherries and plums melded with rich herb, mocha enriched the palate, and clove and nutmeg unfolded. The fruit is vibrant with good concentration, well-portioned mocha, and spice added richness and depth. Smooth grained tannins added a light texture to the mouthfeel. This is an approachable Pinot Noir with a black fruit core, seductive mocha, toasty oak enrichment and a fine-textured palate."
