TROPHY | Hawke's Bay A&P Bayleys Wine Awards
GOLD MEDAL | Hawke's Bay A&P Bayleys Wine Awards
94 POINTS | Bob Campbell MW
Good quality, straight cabernet franc is really hard to come by as lots of winemakers will blend it away however Beach House have bucked this trend and we're loving the result. Chris Harrison only produces cabernet franc in excellent vintages and that's paid off for him here because he's now got a trophy from the Hawke's Bay A&P Bayleys Wine Awards under his belt. The wine itself has a healthy dose of tannic grip and plenty of dark sweet fruit flavours but it's well-balanced and is a stunning example of Gimblett Gravels Cabernet Franc.
The winery writes "Cabernet Franc is our favourite variety from Beach House Wines Gimblett Gravels vineyard. Focused and fruitful with fragrant violets, chocolate, dark forest berries and spice. It has fine lasting tannins that always deliver."
Yvonne Lorkin writes "Chris Harrison has a love for cabernet franc and is one of the few growers in the country to bottle it solo, rather than blending it with others. I love its earthy aromatics and its blueberry, cherry and seasoned leather layers. The tannins are soft and suede-like, the acidity is fresh, and the finish long and savoury. It’s a complex, stylish wine."
Bob Campbell MW writes "Moderately concentrated and richly-textured cabernet franc with cassis, liquorice, new leather and spicy oak flavours. A youthful, appealing wine with cellaring potential. Impeccable. Good value at this price."
