4.5 STARS | Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review
It's always a pleasure to taste New Zealand Methode and this latest release from Awatere River is a very impressive wine. Vinted from chardonnay, pinot noir, and pinot meunier sourced from a selection of premium vineyards across Marlborough's Wairau and Awatere Valleys, it's another top end player in our nation's sparkling wine scene.
Showing citrus, apple, red berry, toasty aromas - with Champagne-esque exuberance, elegance and complexity - this is a wonderful example of Methode Traditionelle. It comes highly recommended.
Cameron Douglas MS writes "Classic bouquet of citrus and white fleshed fruit, there’s a fine leesy quality with an autolysis layer of fresh bread, a touch of oatmeal and toast. Lemon and white peach dominate the core fruit bouquet and flavours. Crisp, salivating, refreshing and dry with a balanced even and dry finish."
The winery writes "Our Méthode Traditionnelle NV is a classic sparkling wine made by the traditional bottle fermentation method. Showing citrus, apple, red berry and toasty aromas with exuberance, elegance and the complexity expected of a fine sparkling wine."
