Long considered one of New Zealand's finest wine producers, Astrolabe has developed a reputation most of the other premium Sauvignon players would give their right arm for.
Winemaker Simon Waghorn describes the Taihoa as his most unique Sauvignon Blanc. Grapes from the terraced, coastal Taihoa vineyard sites are wild fermented in oak puncheons, resulting in a textural and complex wine that will age gracefully. Simply sublime.
Cameron Douglas MS writes "A bouquet of complexity and charm, delicate savoury spice and lees complexities, citrus and white fleshed . tree fruits, some barrel ferment quaities with a light white nut and spice enticement. Fantastic on the palate with a silk touch then flavours of freh citrus and cape gooseberry flash, grapefruit and seaside spices. The acidity and barrel ferment textures layer in complexity and mouthfeel. Delicious and lengthy a fantastic wine. Best drinking from 2023 through 2029."
The winery writes "Focused aromas of guava, lime rind and papaya with light leesy nuances. Powerful and concentrated on the palate, with a tight mineral texture and flavours of melon, green peach and limoncello. Pair with soft white cheese, chicken and tarragon pie, and smoked eel. A natural partner for seafood —particularly oysters."
