Alpha Domus has a well won reputation for crafting fine Hawke's Bay wines and this excellent release from their 'Collection' series is a study in affordable quality. This Collection Merlot Cabernet is the classic sub$20 Hawkes Bay red. A big ripe juicy merlot cabernet that has that all important drinkability factor in spades. This is a fleshy wine with really forward fruit flavours, soft tannins and lovely round mouthfeel.

Vinted from 50% merlot, 22% cabernet franc, 21% cabernet sauvignon and 7% malbec.
The winery writes "At blending fruit forward batches and some darker spicier barrels were selected to give excellent drinkability. A finely textured and mellow red with a satisfying depth of flavour that flows through to a lingering savoury finish. This Merlot Cabernet is perfect with your pizza nights, full flavoured dishes and red meat."
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit writes "Beautifully maturing with complexity, the fragrant bouquet shows dark berry, dried herb, cured meat, and toasted almond characters. The palate delivers good weight and plump mouthfeel, well supported by supple texture and polished tannins, finishing sturdy and finely dry."
