91/100 'Premium' | Cameron Douglas MS
Zaria are a boutique Hawke's Bay producer with winemaker Bryce Edmonds at the helm. The majority of the fruit for their wines come off their Bridge Pa site, Lesley's Vineyard, and Bryce takes a minimal intervention approach to winemaking.
This is ripe and plush merlot / cabernet franc blend with broody flavours of plum and chocolate backed up by delicious spice. A stunning match for BBQ meats.

Sam Kim, Wine Orbit writes "Wonderfully ripe and fragrant, the wine shows blackcurrant, Black Doris plum, thyme, clove, and toasted nut aromas. The palate delivers excellent weight and silky flow, splendidly framed by layers of polished tannins, finishing persistent, and structured. At its best: 2026 to 2034."
Cameron Douglas MS writes "Classic Zaria style with a plush core of dark berries, roasted plum and black olive scents, layers of baked clay and some wood spices lead to a palate of the same. Moderate tannins and decent acid line carry the core red fruits and spice ideas. Balanced and well made with a fresh boysenberry finish. Best drinking from day of purchase through 2030."
