If Riesling had a rebel cousin, this would be it. Kerner is a rare German crossing of riesling and trollinger - fuller, creamier and a whole lot more textural than its famous relative, and the Chaffey Bros were the first to plant it in Australia. In fact, this is still the only Kerner made in the Southern Hemisphere.

The 2024 Kontrapunkt is a knockout. It delivers all the aromatic lift you’d expect. There's citrus blossom, green apple and a hint of spice, but with a plush, almost creamy mid-palate that makes it feel broader and more indulgent than riesling. There’s still a streak of bright acidity to keep everything crisp and refreshing, so it never tips into heavy.

This is white wine for red wine drinkers – more weight, more texture, more “wow”. It’s adventurous but incredibly drinkable, and guaranteed to get people talking. Perfect with food, brilliant on its own, and hands-down one of the most interesting whites in the shop.
