Maison Noire Arneis 2022

Maison Noire Arneis 2022

FIVE STARS 93/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit "beautifully fruited and elegantly expressed"
FOUR STARS | Yvonne Lorkin "juicy, multi-layered white wine"

Run by husband and wife team, Guillaume and Esther, Maison Noire is a truly boutique Hawke's Bay producer. Hailing from the Loire Valley and studying in Bordeaux, winemaker Guillaume draws upon his extensive experience to create wines that express 'a French taste of New Zealand'.

Nicknamed the 'little rascal', Arneis is a white grape varietal from Northern Italy. This lusciously fruity and fresh Hawk'es Bay take on an Italian classic is an incredibly versatile food wine. With fragrant notes of pear, nectarine and lychee and a refeshingly zippy line of acidity, this delightful drop is the ultimate match for fresh seafood.

Tasting Notes

Sam Kim, Wine Orbit writes "Beautifully fruited and elegantly expressed, the bouquet shows apricot, rockmelon, green apple and floral aromas, leading to a succulent palate that's both vibrant and flavoursome. Well structured by juicy acidity and fine texture, offering delightful drinking."

Yvonne Lorkin writes "Just 170 cases were made of this lusciously lemony, apple and apricot-laced, peach-packed Italian favourite made in Hawke’s Bay. Guillaume Thomas has created a juicy, multi-layered white wine with a splash of sweetness that’ll wake up even the most tired tastebuds with its nectarine and honeysuckle intensity. Hints of white pepper and dandelions add an extra dimension."

The winery writes "A Northern Italian variety with the nickname of Little rascal. Incredibly versatile, this mildly complex off dry aromatic wine is a perfect match for seafood, light hors d’oeuvres, creamy cheeses, salads or simply enjoy it on its own. Subtle aromas of pear, white nectarine, mint with a hint of orange rind. Refreshing citrus acidity on the palate with a hint of lychee and a herbaceous flinty kick, all softened by golden liquid honey."
